Social Media Do’s and Don’ts For 2012

In 2012, how we react to accusations or bad press has completely changed. If you are a business owner in 2012, realize that whether you want to be public or not, you are! Sites like Facebook, Twitter and Youtube have completely changed how we do business and how we deal with complaints or negative press!

So what can you do if a storm of negative press comes through your business? Don’t stick your head in the sand and pretend that nothing has happened. That is the worst possible reaction. Face the problem and deal with it, better you get to Facebook first than the complainer!

And when you do respond to the negative press, don’t be phony! If you aren’t sincere, people will know and it will only make things worse! Don’t be afraid to revisit the issue if you’ve made a change that people are upset with. You made the change and guess what, you can go back and make a do-over! How much business are you willing to lose by being stubborn and stuck in your ways? I’m just sayin…

And as long as I am sayin…Work on those communication skills! If you aren’t on Facebook or have a blog, now is the time to get started. They are great tools for communicating! Use these communication outlets to deal with your bad press or negative issues. Do you have resources available to help you deal with these problems if they occur? If not maybe you should start thinking about it.

You can take control of any situation, give your business a voice, speak out, communicate and let your customers/clients hear you. If you don’t someone else will and your business won’t make it in 2012, this new world of business that we’ve all been thrust into! So now is the time to seize Social Media!
